But he slept on, looking much the same as he had since the sickness had come. Tallia went out to the stables to muck out Shift and then, to p the time and keep away from the depression of being in the house, mucked out Fergus and her parents' horses as well as the carriage horse, a gentle giant called Alfie, finally collapsing, exhausted on the floor of Shift's clean stable. The chestnut mare stopped munching on her hay to nose curiously at her mistress, tickling Tallia's face with her whiskers. Tallia laughed and hugged her horse, getting pulled to her feet as Shift raised her head indignantly. Realising that it was now dark outside and hoping the house would be quiet she went into the kitchen and found some dinner waiting on the table. She ate ravenously despite the fact it was almost completely cold. On the way up to her room she met her mother in the hallway. Tallia, where were you for dinner? I left some in the kitchen because I couldn't be bothered to try and find you. I was in the stables, and I found the dinner. I'm going to my room now. She lay back on the bed when she had talked herself out and he proceeded to cover her face in slobber, licking away the tears that had begun to fall. She giggled and sat up, wiping her face on her sleeve, something her mother would be horrified at. Suddenly Tallia felt very tired and got up to put her night robe on.
